There is always a need for current surgical books in Africa. In 2008, with the support of the Donner Canadian Foundation, CNIS shipped a container of new surgical and nursing textbooks to Dar es Salaam. The books, donated by the Sabre Foundation, were distributed at surgical libraries in Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, and Moshi. The shipment included 7719 volumes on topics of medicine, nursing, surgery, radiology, anatomy, trauma, neurosurgery, physiotherapy, dentistry, anesthesia, ophthalmology, and critical care. With the help of three enthusiastic students, as well as ICC-T Director, Dr. Boniface, inventory was taken and distribution was organized to ten libraries.
Tanzania is also part of the University of Toronto’s Ptolomy Project and their Surgery in Africa Monthly Reviews. We will continue to contribute logistics support so that the electronic library linkage will be more effective and integrated into the ICC-T resource center.
