ADVANCES IN LABOUR and RISK MANAGEMENT (ALARM) INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM
(Assistant Medical Officers)
THE PURPOSE – The ALARM course is presented by the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada (SOGC), which aims to reduce death and injury caused in pregnancy, childbirth, and unsafe abortions.
THE SKILLS – The five-day program targets health professionals who provide obstetrical care, reviewing the top five maternal killers (post-partum haemorrhage, obstructed labour, sepsis, abortion complications, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia complications), and suggesting essential tools and problem management with the goal of improving health care for mothers and newborns.
The ALARM International Program has been developed with an emphasis on sexual and reproductive rights which form an integral part of the program’s content. Discussions of women’s reproductive and sexual health as an issue of social justice occur alongside hands-on practice of clinical procedures.
