Meet our Twinning Schools 2011-2012

September 21, 2011

Students from Bazen Elementary in Axum in class

Eight Canadian elementary schools are now ‘twinned’ with eight elementary schools in Axum, Ethiopia through the Canada/Ethiopia Elementary school Twinning Project. Starting this fall, the schools will share letters, art projects and stories, to teach their ‘twins’ about each other’s countries, customs, school systems and daily lives. We are looking forward to this learning experience, and welcome ideas and suggestions from all participants.

All the Ethiopian schools are in and around the historical town of Axum in Northern Ethiopia. The Canadian elementary schools vary from small rural schools to larger urban schools, and cover the provinces of Newfoundland, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.

Participating schools for the 2011-2012 school year:

  • Abraha we Atsbeha Primary School, Axum Ethiopia is twinned with Beachy Cove Elementary School, St Philips, Newfoundland.
  • Aksum Primary School, Axum Ethiopia is twinned with Hillcrest Elementary school in Surrey, British Columbia.
  • Bazen Elementary School, Axum Ethiopia is twinned with Lord Tennyson Elementary in Vancouver, British Columbia.
  • Ezana Primary School, Axum Ethiopia is twinned with Redvers School, Redvers, Saskatchewan.
  • Hawelti Primary School, Axum Ethiopia is twinned with Duffield School, Duffield, Alberta.
  • Kindeya Primary School, Axum Ethiopia is twinned with Christine Morrison Elementary School, Mission, British Columbia.
  • Megabit 18 Complete Primary School, Axum Ethiopia is twinned with Boston Bar Elementary School, Boston Bar, British Columbia.
  • Worea/Werie Elementary School, Axum Ethiopia is twinned with River Valley School, Calgary, Alberta.

CNIS welcomes all our twinning schools and thanks the teachers and volunteers who have made it happen. If you are interested in participating in the Twinning Project, please contact us.
