The History
The inception of the Injury Prevention Initiative for Africa (IPIFA) has made significant advancements since its inception in 1997 and incorporation in 2002. IPIFA, the regional African network, is the only continental injury control network in the world. The organization currently has membership from 13 African countries including Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Mauritius, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The Injury Control Centre Uganda (ICC-U) is the Secretariat for IPIFA. An executive and a regionally representative steering committee, along with a communications strategy, secretariat and full-time staff member are all in place. CNIS aims for IPIFA to develop its own financial resources and become self sustaining within five years.
