The CNIS hosted our annual African market on Saturday August 29. The purpose of this event is to promote and support African culture in the community and to engage Canadians with the life-saving work of the CNIS. This year, in addition to the wonderful African food, music, fashion, and crafts, everyone enjoyed tribal face painting and contributing to a Zambian wall mural. We look forward to seeing you at next year's African Market!

Spend an evening with international best-selling author and world wide hero, Romeo Dallaire, who will be at the Croation Cultural Centre on June 13th, 2008 for his second presentation put forth by the Canadian Network for International Surgery. New Location Celebrations & CIDA Grant Presentation 2007
The CNIS Open House was a great way to introduce ourselves to our new neighborhood and show off the new location! There was great food, prizes and amazing music. The Band "Blackberry Wood" performed, and prizes were awarded to some of our amazing volunteers. Dr Robin Fairful-Smith was awarded Volunteer of the Year for 2006. Linda Akagi, Syd Effer and Henry Miller were all recognized for their excellent work as CNIS volunteers.
The Sep 5, 2006 event, An evening with Romeo Dallaire - "The Human Dimension in Conflict Resolution" was a great success in increasing public awareness and raising funds towards supporting work in third world countries. CNIS would like to thank everyone for their support.

On May 4, 2006, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean was very pleased to accept the invitation to become Patron of the Canadian Network for International Surgery. The Governor General is happy to lend her general endorsement, and in a letter to the CNIS, she conveys her best wishes for the continuing success of the CNIS.
Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean was born on September 6, 1957 in Port au Prince, Haiti. She was appointed by Queen Elizabeth the Second to succeed Adrienne Clarkson, becoming the 27th Governor General of Canada. Prior to Ms. Jean, Romeo LeBlanc, who was Governor General from 1995-1999, was patron of the CNIS. Mr. LeBlanc had a long and distinguished career in public service.
This joyous event was held in the spring and featured an "African Market" during the afternoon where African articles of art, clothing, music and other items are available for sale. The evening event featured foods from different regions of Africa, African cultural presentations and African music.
