CNIS 2009 African Market

Canadian Network for International Surgery holds an African Market every summer. We have no more tables available, but we are still looking for performers. This year we wish to make the market more interactive, so guests can participate and learn something. Ideas welcome!

Cost: Tables are $25 and are now sold out. You can book now for 2010. Entrance is free.

Insurance and Permits: CNIS will arrange insurance of the venue and have permission from the city to hold the event. (food vendors see below)

Food Vendors: Vendors that sell food must have the appropriate Vancouver Coastal Health permit for food at temporary locations.

Performances: We will set up a tent at the back of the courtyard for live performances. This will hopefully restrict the sound from going into the residential area. CNIS is not in a position to pay for entertainment, but the performers can sell CDs during the market and will receive a complimentary lunch. The names of the performing groups will be added to printed material and this CNIS event page.

Timing: Setup from 9 am. Market open: 12 - 6 pm. (clean up till 7 pm)

Fashion Show: We hope to have an African Fashion show, with new trends and local talent. Anyone interested?

African Flags: We have the big courtyard with giant columns, and hope to borrow African flags to hang around the space.

Volunteer Help: We are looking for volunteers to help with set up, pick ups, security, on site help and wrap. We also hope to borrow a tent and a sound system. Please contact us if you wish to help.

Spreading the Word: We invite local African businesses, organizations, press, consulates, restaurants, performers and NGOs etc. Please forward the information to your African contacts.

Ads: The Market will be advertised on this web site, kitsilano.ca Kitsilano Chamber of Commerce, and Vancouver event listings.
