Partnership in Canada, Africa and throughout the globe is the basis of CNIS productivity

Since 1995, CNIS has been building capacity and developing health infrastructure in Africa. Past achievements have been due to the contributions of committed African, Canadian and global partners.

African departments of surgery and obstetrics in 8 countries collaborate within the African Canadian Committee for Essential Surgical Skills umbrella. The regional injury prevention network (IPIFA) links ICC – Uganda, ICC – Tanzania and individual African injury experts from 14 African countries in a second umbrella organization. CNIS will take the lead in establishing a Global Network for International Surgery which will facilitate the communications and coordination of other surgical development organizations from high income countries.

CNIS has formal links with eight Canadian University Departments of Surgery, the Canadian Association of General Surgeons, Children’s and Women’s Health Centre in Vancouver, the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC), and Christian Blind Mission (Canada). Sherbrooke University and the Quebec WHO Collaborating Centre for Safety (CCOMS) are partners which augment our capabilities in Francophone Africa. These organizations work with CNIS in implementing its safer surgery, obstetrics and communities’ programs.
